The Lightroom Mobile app has come a long way since it’s release in 2016. The latest updates have included :
– Ability to edit RAW files on the mobile app. This feature was previously only available through Lightroom desktop software or Adobe’s cloud solution, Photoshop CC.
– Improved search functionality for images uploaded to Adobe Cloud .
– The ability to view photos offline and even lock them so they don’t get deleted when you run out of space on your phone.
– Ability to sync photos that are stored offline with other devices through Adobe Cloud .
What Is Lightroom Mobile App?
First of all, Lightroom Mobile App is an application for taking, sorting and editing your images. It allows you to upload photos from your camera roll on mobile devices (not available in the free version), as well as access already uploaded pictures via Adobe’s Creative Cloud platform. You can then sort these into albums, create slideshows with music, edit RAW images on your mobile device, and access the images via desktop browser.
What Is The Difference Between Free vs Paid Version?
The free version, which is what this blog post focuses on, provides quick photo editing tools such as exposure and temperature control.
In order to access Lightroom Mobile App’s full capabilities, you will need the paid version. Adobe offers three plans: Photography Plan and All Apps plan (which is more expensive). However, you can also use the Lightroom mobile app to sync your images across all devices via Creative Cloud Library. This means that any changes you make in Lightroom CC will be reflected online and vice versa .
Lightroom Mobile App Review
Let’s take a look at the Lightroom mobile tools and figure out if Lightroom mobile is worth it for you.
Use Lightroom Mobile App for Taking Photos
Taking photos with a mobile device is convenient and easy. However, the more you rely on it to take your main shots, the less likely you’ll be inclined to purchase a DSLR camera in future or carry around an additional point-and-shoot camera. If this is your first experience with a camera, then you won’t not be disappointed by the picture quality.
The best camera is the one you have with you
However, if you consider yourself a serious photographer and this is not your main device—then Lightroom Mobile app will disappoint you. While you can control the main camera features, it’s better than your phones native camera but not as easy to use as your DSLR. That alone is worth the download for many people.
Sort Your Images in Albums
After taking your images, you can access them using Lightroom Mobile app and sort them into albums (just like desktop versions). The free version only allows up to five different albums while premium offers unlimited space. Of course, this feature works best if you only take a handful of pictures and upload them to your device.
Ability to Edit RAW Shots
Another great feature that Lightroom Mobile app offers is the ability to edit RAW images. After you take some screenshots, they will be automatically synced and converted into JPEGs (JPG) files on your mobile device. If you want to edit these RAW shots using Lightroom’s powerful features such as exposure control, cropping or changing white balance—you will be disappointed since Lightroom Mobile only offers a few basic editing tools.
Access synced photos on your desktop and the web: (Premium Only)
The Lightroom Mobile app allows you to access images in a browser by logging into Adobe’s Creative Cloud account—just like using any other cloud storage platform such as Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive. This is not available with the free version of the application.
Removal Tool: (Premium Only)
Lightroom mobile’s removal tool allows you to erase unwanted objects from your images, like rubbish, telegraph polls in landscapes, or spots on a face. This feature is only available in the paid version of Lightroom mobile app and I recommend you try it for yourself to see if it’s worth spending money on.
Selective Editing: (Premium Only)
Selective editing is a powerful tool for grabbing attention and making an impact. Selective local editing allows you adjust exposure, contrast and other settings on just part of an image, using a brush, for more creative control over how viewers see what’s happening in your photo or video clip!
Perspective Adjustments: (Premium Only)
Perspective adjustive with geometry tools, lets you tilt and shift images to achieve desired angles and effects.
Premium Lightroom Mobile App: Price
The free version of Adobe’s application allows you to access most features with only a few limitations such
If you are already a Lightroom user with Creative Cloud subscription, then this application is free for download in iTunes or Google Play. If not, you’ll need to purchase an Adobe Photography plan at $119 per year (or pay monthly).
What I love
The ability to upload images directly from my mobile device without having to transfer them via a USB cable is invaluable. That would have saved me so many hours of work if this feature was available back when I first began using digital cameras! The second thing that makes Lightroom Mobile app unique and useful are the Creative Cloud Libraries. Being able to access the same photos as those on my desktop and web gives me peace of mind that I can always see what’s happening with all images, regardless of which device is being used at the moment.
What I don’t love
Lightroom app vs desktop
Even though the Lightroom Mobile app has come a long way, especially in terms of editing capabilities, it still falls short compared to its desktop and web counterparts (Lightroom CC & Lightroom Classic). For example:
– You don’t have access to linear or radial gradients
If you’re looking for a solid photo editing solution, I recommend skipping over Adobe’s mobile apps and using Lightroom on your desktop or web, however that doesn’t mean it can’t be a great tool for on the go, quick edits.
Frequently asked questions about Lightroom Mobile
Is Lightroom mobile as good as Lightroom?
Can I use Lightroom Mobile without paying?
Yes, but you’re limited to the type of edits you can make. If you want complete editing capabilities and have an Adobe Creative Cloud account then it is worth purchasing a subscription package from them because there are many additional features for this app that cannot be accessed on any other platform.
How to use Lightroom app to edit photos?
To use the Lightroom app to edit photos, go to the Library tab at the bottom of your screen and tap on an image and it will open up in a separate window where you can edit and tweak it. Make sure to save changes when you’re finished by tapping the Save icon in the upper-right corner of your screen or by tapping “Done” at the bottom of your window.
How to sync Lightroom mobile to desktop and sync Lightroom classic to mobile?
Syncing between Adobe Lightroom mobile and the desktop is easy. You can do it directly from your phone or tablet to a computer, or use Creative Cloud syncing if you have an account for either of those services.
Can I sync my presets on Lightroom mobile?
Yes! To transfer your presets:
– Open the Presets tab at the bottom of your screen.
– Scroll to a preset you want to use on Lightroom mobile, and tap it once – this will make the preset active in Lightroom Mobile’s Presets panel. Now any changes you make using that same preset from Lightroom Mobile will be saved back to Creative Cloud as soon as they’re made.
– Next, go to the Lightroom tab at the bottom of your screen and tap on Sync – this will bring up a list of all synced presets from Creative Cloud.
Where can you find free presets in light room mobile app?
You can find the free presets in Lightroom mobile by going to Library and scrolling down to “Free Presets”. There you’ll be able to download them directly onto your device. If you’re using another Adobe app such as Photoshop or Illustrator, then they will also appear here. Alternatively, you can add your favourite presets.
